Andalusite var. Chiastolite

Item Description

The Sangping Mine (Xixia Mine) in China has produced classic specimens of Andalusite var. Chiastolite. Chiastolites are known for their crossed-shaped inclusions of Carbon, and they are rather rare from this locality. To better show this amazing pattern, crystals such as this one are often polished at one end to facilitate the view of the carbon cross wthin the Andalusite. This single crystal is significant in size, being borderline between a miniature and a small cabinet. I have always found the aesthetics of good Chiastolites to be captivating.
