Item Description

A remarkable 5.3 cm, blocky, textbook orthorhombic andalusite crystal is jauntily perched on the sculptural combination matrix on this very fine small cabinet specimen from this well-known locale. The pinkish layered crystal has typical waxy luster. The protected end is mostly terminated and partially bruised. The open end is broken. The crystal is dramatically interrupted and intersected by the 7 mm quartz veinlet from the underlying quartz resting on the mica schist matrix. Andalusite is a polymorph of Kyanite and Sillimanite. An aesthetic and excellent andalusite combination from the locale. NOTE: THIS AUCTION ITEM IS DONATED from the Emanuele Murada - Veronica Baruta collection TO BENEFIT MINDAT on behalf of the Valtellinese Institute of Mineralogy .
