A huge crystal for the county, at 2.3 cm. This andradite garnet is well-placed with smaller andradites and quartz on this exceptional and rare piece from San Benito County. The splendent crystals are a rich, deep chocolate-brown and have striking bands and areas of orange-red, translucent gemmy fire, when backlit. The base has been sawed to enhance the display quality. This excellent and rare piece has a fine provenance. It was originally in the John Sinkankas Collection. Later it was part of the Pala Properties/Bill Larson Garnet Collection and was on display at the Fallbrook shop. Valued at $500.
