Anatase on Quartz

Matskorhae is one of the best, if not THE best locality known for anatase crystals associated with lustrous, clear quartz. Crystals of quartz and anatase were found here in the late 1960s and the area was mined over the next 5-6 years. Today it is considered fully exploited with only a handful of good finds from local collectors after the flurry of specimens in the 1970s. This is a typical piece recovered from the locality, a single quartz point littered with small but translucent steel-blue anatase crystals. Please note that while there is a small ding at the top of the crystal, it is very uncommon for a specimen from Matskorhae to not have any damage since they were removed quickly without much regard for the safety of the crystals.
