Item Description

The Poudrette Quarry at Mont Saint-Hilaire, Québec, Canada is one of the most iconic mineral localities in history. Hundreds of species have been found there, and they are some of the most distinctive minerals you'll see from any place in the world. The famous quarry is also well-known for its unique pseudomorphs, and this piece is a great example of said material. Beautiful porcelain-esque white Analcime has replaced blocky/prismatic crystals of Natrolite with minor associated Calcite to create a showy and fine quality toenail sized display specimen. The largest crystal measures 1.3 cm. No damage that I can find, and it really looks great in person. A choice piece of this classic, and now notably hard to find material, since collecting at the quarry has been severely restricted.
From the collection of David E Ziga, a geologist who graduated Miami (of Ohio) University in 2017, with a mineralogy background. The piece is originally from the collection of William Archer.
