Item Description

Ampangabeite is the old name for a discredited species that was first discovered at this locality and described in 1912 by Alfred Lacroix. Today, all of the Ampangabeites are Samarksite-(Y), the Y analogue of Samarskite-(Yb). This piece is a good example of this well known material from Madagascar featuring sharp, well-formed, blackish-red prismatic intergrown crystals. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock, and the label does refer to the piece as Ampangabeite.
