Item Description
A superb crystal of naturally occuring bicolor Ametrine from the only place in the world where it's found. Ametrine is a purple and yellow bi-color variety that is formed by a unique twin law ("Brazil Law Twinning") where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. I have seen hundreds of Ametrine crystals from this locality, and the majority of them are heavily etched, and rarely even retain their original hexagonal form. I've seen plenty of un-etched regular Amethyst crystals, but it is EXCEPTIONALLY RARE to find euhedral, sharp, lustrous GEM quality crystals of actual Ametrine from Anahi. This piece is not only sharp and un-etched, but a textbook crystal with WET luster and smooth faces on every side. It's clearly Ametrine as you can see the purple Amethyst and yellow Citrine even without backlighting. I've only seen a few of these over the years, and I know for a fact that this one was mined 25 years ago, so don't hold your breath waiting for another one to show up. All in all, this is the an outstanding representation of this beautiful variety of Quartz, even if there's a little bit of edge wear here and there. It should be noted that the yellow Citrine in Ametrine is one of the few cases where we find gem quality Citrine that is not heated or irradiated to create the color. The crystal is priced at $1400.
