Item Description
Ametrine is a rare unique variety of Quartz and the finest examples are only found at the Anahi Mine in Bolivia. I've seen specimens labeled as coming from Brazil, but this is because the Bolivian material is sometimes sent to Brazil for processing / polishing, and then they slap a "Made in Brazil" sticker on them, but everything is found in Bolivia. Ametrine is a naturally occurring bi-color variety where two separate individually colored sections are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. The colors are oriented so that the famous bi-colored gems can be faceted, but this can waste a lot of rough, so we've decided to polish some of the broken crystals we purchased to show off the quality and internal beauty of these unique specimens. This attractive, colorful, gemmy polished slice of Ametrine shows excellent distinction between the purple and yellow zones. They are not "muddled" and show up very well, even without backlighting. Lastly, it should be noted that the yellow portions of this piece are NATURAL (UNHEATED) Citrine, which is incredibly rare in nature, as most of the commercial material on the market is created by heating Amethyst to create the yellow color. A very cool polished slice of this classic material. The piece weighs 135.80 grams. Priced at $500.
