Ametrine (natural bi-colored Quartz)

Quartz has many varieties and even sub-varieties found all over the world. These stones occur in many different color of the rainbow, but they are often a solitary color. One of my favorite Quartz varieties is Ametrine, and the best examples are those from Bolivia. Ametrine is a unique, naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety of Quartz where two separate, individually colored, sections of a crystal are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. The two colors are then oriented to cut the famous bicolor gemstones. The stones from Bolivia are NATURAL in color, but beware of the synthetics on the market that claim to be natural stones. There's nothing wrong with buying a synthetic gem, as long as you KNOW it's synthetic. This particular stone is a beautiful, well cut, natural yellow and purple bicolor gem with a "Shield" cut. It's virtually eye-clean and would make a great center stone for jewelry or it could sit alone as an addition to your gem collection. The stone has nearly a 50/50 split of purple and yellow. It has come to my attention that the mine is no longer producing this material and the market has quickly "dried up". Don't miss this opportunity to own a colorful, naturally occurring, good sized gem with a rarely seen bi-color effect. Keep in mind that outside of Tourmaline, there are very few naturally bi-colored gemstones in the world.
