Item Description
This is a unique variety of Quartz from the finest occurrence in the world. Ametrine is a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety that is formed by a unique twin law ("Brazil Law Twinning") where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. The two colors are oriented to cut the famous bicolor gemstones. Here we have a natural, GEM quality, colorful, bi-color purple and yellow, hydrothermally etched crystal of Ametrine with a rarely seen "c" 0001 pinacoid face at the end of the termination. This basal face on the top of the crystal is almost never observed in Quartz. Due to the blending of the yellow and purple, you can see rich golden and pink tones which are seen when the yellow and purple are overlapping inside of the crystal. A very cool, rare and completely unique example of this material that is only found in one place in the world like this! The entire crystal is VERY gemmy, and with the one-of-a-kind etching pattern, would make a splendid addition to any collection. Weight = 140.88 grams.
