Item Description
Ametrine is a unique variety of Quartz with a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-colored hue where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. The two colors are oriented to cut the famous bi-color gemstones. This piece is a wonderful, GEM quality, colorful, bi-color purple and yellow, hydrothermally etched crystal of Ametrine, but the most important aspect of the piece is that it features a rarely seen "c" 0001 pinacoid face at the top of the termination. This face is almost never observed in prismatic Quartz crystals, but we see it more often in Ametrine for some reason. A very cool and completely unique example of this material that is only found in one place in the world like this! As mentioned, the crystal is very gemmy and with the one-of-a-kind etching pattern, would make a splendid addition to any collection. There are a few dings here and there, so it's not completely pristine, but it's still a highly unusual and attractive example of this beautiful material. Specimen weight = 86.61 grams.
