Item Description
This is a unique variety of Quartz from the finest occurrence in the world. Ametrine is a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety that is formed by a unique twin law ("Brazil Law Twinning") where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. The two colors are oriented to cut the famous bicolor gemstones. Here we have a natural, colorful, bi-color purple and yellow, hexagonal crystal of Ametrine with sharp, well-formed pyramidal faces on the termination. Now the crystal is not complete, as it's contacted on the termination along with the back of the piece, but the well-formed faces that are complete are typically not very common from this locality, as many Ametrine crystals are severely etched with no discernible crystal form remaining. A cool example of this material that is only found in one place in the world like this! Weight = 444.89 grams.
