Ametrine is one of the more attractive Quartz varieties out there as it is a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety, which is rare for any species. The finest examples of Ametrine are found in the eastern jungle of Bolivia at the Anahi Mine. Most people are familiar with the classic "slabs" of Ametrine which are cut perpendicular to the "c" axis to show the separate color zones in the crystals, often showing an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles. This piece is a natural, heavily etched crystal of Ametrine showing beautiful purple and yellow color zones (some of which combine to create a wonderful rich pink hue when the crystal is rotated in the light). The piece shows beautiful color when backlit. Beautiful material, and I honestly feel that these specimens do not get enough attention for their unique coloring and quality in the mineral world. The crystal weighs 80 grams. A few small nicks keep it from being completely perfect, but it's a still a really eye-catching example of this unique material.
