Item Description

This is a unique variety of Quartz from the finest occurrence in the world. Ametrine is a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety that is formed by a unique twin law ("Brazil Law Twinning") where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. This is how the two colors are oriented to cut the famous bicolor gemstones. Here we have a natural, very gemmy, bi-color purple and yellow, hydrothermally etched, colorful crystal of Ametrine with a rarely seen "c" 0001 pinacoid face, that is almost never observed in Quartz crystals. Despite a few small contacts, it is still a very cool crystal of this material that is only found in one place in the world!
