Item Description
When it comes to the various ore bodies around Colorado, there are plenty of Quartz specimens, but Amethyst is not terribly common. The best and most well-known Amethysts from any mining district in the state have to the be the wonderful pieces from Creede. This specimen is from the famous Commodore Mine and features strong purple colored hexagonal prisms, sitting on a thin layer of matrix. A few groups of highly skeletal and somewhat altered cubic Galena can be seen sitting atop the Amethyst crystals for a nice touch. No major damage, maybe only a few small imperfections, and very attractive up close. If you collect Quartz, Colorado minerals or if you just like the combination of these two minerals together, don't miss out on this eye-catching specimen from one of the most productive mines in Creede. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
