Amethyst with Chalcedony (rare locality specimen) (ex Dave Bergman Collection)

Item Description

Here we have a rarely seen polished specimen of Amethyst with Chalcedony. The pieces comes from the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman who lived very close to Lake City, and literally found the piece lying on the ground one day and eventually had it sliced and polished. The piece features gentle grey blue colored banded Chalcedony on the outer portions which have small open cavities that almost look like they contain "casts" after a preexisting mineral that dissolved away. Closer to the center of the piece you can see crystalline purple Amethyst. The exterior has what appears to be a bit of green Celadonite. An odd specimen for the locality, as nothing like this is reported from near Lake City, but there are always little deposits all over the place that people discover, so this piece might have just weathered out of an outcrop and the actual deposit has yet to be discovered.
