Amethyst with Calcite (old - classic locale)

Amethyst specimens of this sculptural large size and richness are uncommon from this famous extinct New Jersey trap rock quarry. Most of the impressive large vug in basalt matrix is festooned with sparkly, gemmy amethyst points, to 8 mm. The amethyst crystals turn an unusual light purple/gray color on the upper right. A nifty accent is the 1.5 cm cluster of contrasting, oxide-tinted Calcite rhombohedrons on the right side of the vug. Formerly in the Joe Cilen Collection #1099. Joe was a well-known New Jersey collector, who accumulated over 23,000 specimens. He passed away in 1997. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection No. 19749CL and acquired in 2001. Joe collected the piece at the well-known quarry prior to World War II, according to Chet's catalogue. Outstanding large old-time amethyst with calcite combination from the well-known locale.
