Item Description

Amethyst crystals from the Piedra Parada (formerly referred to as Las Vigas) area of Mexico have long been considered among the world’s finest examples of this purple variety of Quartz. This beautiful and showy cabinet display specimen features several excellent, very sharp, lustrous, gemmy to transparent, classic, lavender to colorless crystals measuring up to 4.8 cm long aesthetically flaring off a thin plate of matrix. The larger crystals show excellent defined scepter habits, which is fairly uncommon from this locality. A beautiful and elegant specimen, that is better in person. No damage that I can see anywhere with the naked eye. Valued between $1,500-$2,000 retail. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired from mining, but was formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s, and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
