Amethyst (scepter) (ex Brian Kosnar Collection)

Item Description

The Little Giant Basin in San Juan County has produced some very attractive Quartz specimens, including fine skeletal and scepter Amethyst specimens. This piece is an eye-catching slender prismatic Quartz crystal featuring a slightly milky / smoky hue at the base which and an excellent, gemmy, sharp, very lustrous, "Amethystine" sceptered crystal overgrowth. The piece is nearly undamaged, there are TINY imperfections that I can see with magnification. I love the absolute crystal clarity of the termination. A little of bit of yellow iron inclusions gives the piece a bit of character and makes it "pop". This particular piece was collected by San Juan collector, Mark Mahlum in the summer of 2008, and is a great example of the type of specimens that can be found in the Little Giant Basin.
