Item Description

Amethyst gets its name from the Greek terms "a-methystos", which actually means "not drunken,". Historically, wine goblets were carved from Amethyst in the belief that it prevented people from becoming intoxicated. It remains as a symbol of sobriety to this day. Traditionally, the color purple has been a symbol for royalty and Amethyst was often used for monarchs and leaders throughout history. Amethyst would be very expensive, were not for its widespread availability, as it is one of the few purple gems out there. There are only a few places in the world that produce Amethyst this color. I've seen rich Amethysts from Siberia and Zambia, but not a lot of Brazilian gems have this deep color. This stone has a rich "grape jelly" purple color VS clarity and an "Oval Brilliant" cut.
