Amethyst is a common and well-known gem, but there are only few places in the world that produce stones this color. The old Russian material has long been mined out, but was famous for being some of the best deep purple Amethyst ever found. Zambia produces very rich Amethyst gems, but the production has almost dwindled to nothing in recent years. The Artigas area in Uruguay still produces AMAZING color Amethyst stones to this day. This material has some of the most intense "grape jelly" purple color you'll ever see in Amethyst. The color is completely natural and very difficult to find elsewhere. This stone is a wonderful, saturated, deep purple color stone with only very slight inclusions and an "Emerald" cut. The stones rarely get very big from Uruguay because the crystals do not grow in a way that yields large stones. Don't miss out on this superb color stone.
