Item Description

Despite the number of pieces that were found around Bombori, they are virtually non-existent on the market today. The various diggings around Bombori have been completely mined out, and nothing has been found to the best of my knowledge since the early to mid 2000s. This is attractive small cabinet size piece consisting of fine quality, sharp, gemmy, lustrous, prismatic, purple Amethyst crystals which feature the rarely seen "reverse" scepter habit on the ends of the terminations measuring up to 9 mm associated with translucent, white, modified rhombohedra of Calcite and minor underlain "Chlorite" on matrix. This piece is remarkable for Bolivia as it features a type of crystallization for Quartz that is virtually unheard of from anywhere in the country. This is one of the better pieces from the find for quality, aesthetics and overall appeal. Please note that Calcite is a rather rare species from Bolivia, and the Calcite crystals from Bombori are the best examples of Bolivian Calcite crystals that we've seen from the entire country. There are very few of these left, so if you are a Quartz collector, get your hands on one now, as nothing has been seen from this locality in a long time. From the collection of Richard Kosnar (1946-2007), well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, and the namesake for the phosphate species, Kosnarite.
