Item Description
An incredibly hard to find faceted gem from near the town of Pocopson in Southeastern Pennsylvania, about 25 miles west of Philadelphia. The rough from which the stone was cut was collected by Anatoly Bitny in 2021, and the gem was faceted by Jay Baskin. The letter of provenance accompanying the stone states, "Amethyst has long been regarded as one of Pennsylvania's rarest Quartz varieties. Many exceptional examples have been collected in years past and were rarely of gem quality suitable for faceting. The development of the area these fine crystals were found in has made collecting them almost non-existent. This small find has been the result of many years and hours spent prospecting the area." This is the first and only stone that we've ever had to offer from the locality, and considering it's nearly 4 carats in weight, it's a notably good-sized gem on top of being only very very slightly included in clarity. The stone has an excellent "Oval Brilliant" cut and a light-medium purple color. A must-have stone for any fan of Amethyst, East Coast gems or specifically stones from Pennsylvania. You may not see another one of these on the market, anytime soon, so don't miss out. From the collection of Dr. Jim Houran, who has assembled one of the best eclectic suites of gems from the United States in private hands.
