Item Description

Unusual banded botryoidal amethyst on this sculptural and aesthetic combination from the famous mines at Guanajuato. Very glassy, translucent to transparent, modified calcite rhombs, to 2.8 cm, form an accenting "porch" and are nicely set at the top of the botryoid. The multitude of pretty light lavender amethyst crystals have moderate lustre frosted faces. The broken base shows the striking amethyst banding with a matrix core. Pretty pink calcite fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5304 and acquired from the Bourget Brothers in the late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Very classy, ususual style large amethsyt combination material from this historic locale.
