Amethyst on Smoky Quartz, with Feldspar

Two generations of Quartz anchor this attractive and unusual specimen. The first generation is an 8 cm Smoky Quartz crystal, frosted on one half and super-lustrous and gemmy on the other. Over time, the chemistry of the solution changed and the Smokey Quartz graded into beautiful, highly lustrous gemmy purple Amethysts crystals on both ends, essentially making this a very large, DOUBLY-TERMINATED Amethyst/Smoky. The largest Amethyst is 2.3 cm tall and 2.3 cm wide. The quality of the Amethyst is suberb, and the gemminess and zoning very aesthetic. The Feldpsars are nestled in under the larger Amethysts. Unusual, with great Amethysts.
