Amethyst on Fluorite (RARE locality specimen) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

Over the years, we've seen a handful of Fluorite and Quartz specimens from this mine, but we've never encountered a piece of Amethyst with Fluorite before. After doing a bit of research, I can only find one other specimen of this specific material from the Heisser Stein Mine in Bavaria. The label accompanying the specimen states that it was found in either 1966 or 1967, and I'm led to believe that it might have been a one time discovery. This piece features "stubby" (bi-pyramidal) crystals of sharp, lustrous, medium to light colored purple Amethyst measuring up to 1.6 cm which are overgrowing a layer of greenish-grey Fluorite crystals on the underside / back of the specimen. There is some visible damage, so the specimen is not pristine, but it's the fact that it is nearly impossible to get your hands on a piece of this material that makes it so desirable. If you collect Quartz, Fluorite (or combinations of the two species) or unusual locality specimens, do not pass up a chance to get your hands on a piece of this incredibly elusive material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4885). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
