Amethyst on Calcite

Item Description

Beautiful scalenohedrons of lustrous and translucent, ivory-colored calcite crystals, to 8 cm in length, are the matrix for several stout, almost pyramidal crystals of glassy and gemmy, richly purple-colored amethyst (themselves to 2 inches, or 5 cm in length). Attractive contrast of color and texture makes this a really unusual and dramatic example from these prolific finds. Normally the balance is reversed, just some small calcites on big amethysts. THIS piece shows off the amethyst, from the base of calcite as we sit it.
