Amethyst on Barite and Calcite

Beautiful, gemmy and lustrous, pretty purple, amethyst crystals to 1.6 are attractively scattered on the undulating volcanic tuff matrix coated with creamy calcite rhombs and spiky, little, glassy, gray-green, barite crystals. A bit of periphery wear is only a very modest detraction. This showy and excellent combination piece is from the Sardinian locality said to have produced Italy's finest amethyst specimens. The crystals are large for the locality and look like classic Las Vigas amethysts.
