Amethyst is a well-known semi-precious gem (the purple variety of Quartz), which has been known for centuries around the world. Brazil for many decades has been the leading source of fine gem quality Amethyst. This particular stone is a beautiful custom cut Amethyst with great saturated color. The stone is virtually eye clean, but what makes it really special is the fact that it has a "Fantasy" cut. This style of cutting is where the underside/pavilion/culet area of the gem has actually been carved to create beautiful geometric patterns, freeform designs or unique shapes that are seldom seen in any colored stones on the market today. The table of the stone has a "buff top" / cabochon polish, with no actual facets, but it really lets the beautiful carved pattern on the pavilion come through. The gem was cut by Brett Kosnar, who is a 4-time AGTA Spectrum Award winning gem cutter. A really special and beautiful one-of-a-kind stone for any fan of custom faceted gems. It would make a great center stone for a pendant, or as an addition to your gem collection, or your could even pair it up with a gem Amethyst crystal for a great "rough and cut" set.
