Item Description

Amethyst (and this is, though pastel, truly amethyst) is extremely rare from the famous limestone quarries of Keokuk County, which is noted for its world-class millerite specimens and huge supply of (white) quartz geodes. Out of thousands, one might get only one amethyst geode. This very impressive, LARGE CABINET, geode is lined on both sides with knobby, very glassy and lustrous, pretty light purple, amethyst crystals. Older, unique material from the Richard Hauck Quartz Collection. 6.0 pounds or 2.7 kilos. CORRECTION TO ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION WITH THANKS TO A LOCAL COLLECTOR: The fine amethyst geode form the Houck collection is said to be from "Keokuk County, Iowa". Some geodes do occur in Keokuk County, but this one looks more like those found some distance away around the town of Keokuk (located in nearby Lee County) and the adjacent areas. This specimen will sell for far more than I can afford, but the locality info may be of interest to the buyer.
