Amethyst (excellent rare locality specimen) (ex Gerry Morvell Collection)

Item Description

This is the first and obviously best specimen of this notably rare material that we've ever had to offer from this little-known locality just west of Holden, Massachusetts. For reference, I've only seen a few loose single crystals from this locality in the past, so to have a small cabinet display specimen loaded with crystals like this is a big deal. There are multiple, razor-sharp, highly lustrous, sharp, well-formed, gemmy, fine purple colored hexagonal crystals of Amethyst measuring up to 1.5 cm, sitting atop a layer of GEMMY, colorless Quartz prisms on host rock matrix. The amount of color seen in a particular crystal is directly proportionate to the size of the crystal, as the smaller ones have zero color, and they show more purple as they increase in size. For the most part, the specimen is in great condition with only very minor nicks. The main crystal is undamaged on all sides and it looks wonderful when backlit. If you collect minerals of New England or you're a fan of worldwide Quartz/Amethyst, this is an impressive example that would make a fine addition to any collection.
