Item Description

A wonderful cabinet sized display specimen of this classic material. This famous old locality is known for a myriad of species, not least of which are the multitude of colors and habits of Quartz. Just the Amethsyt alone from Banska Stiavnica are impressive! This piece features some of the more classic parallel growth somewhat tapered hexagonal crystals with a deep internal grape jelly purple hue which grades into a soft lilac-grey color on the exterior. The largest crystal measures 2.8 cm, and although the piece is not completely damage free, many of the crystals are in good shape. It's hard to gauge when this piece was collected, but I'm told by some experts in Slovakia that this could be well over 100 years old based upon the color, habit and form that was consistent with the production during that time. A comparable (and argualy better) specimen can be seen on mindat at this link http://www.mindat.org/photo-571030.html). From the collection of Richard Kosnar, and certainly worth picking up for any central European collector, a Quartz collector, or even a collector of specifically Banska Stiavnica minerals.
