Item Description

A really unusual Amethyst group from Brazil. I suppose saying that any Brazilian Quartz specimen is unusual would be redundant, but this one is "odder" than most. Were it not for the label, I would have never known where it's from. There are dozens of fairly slender, prismatic crystals of Amethyst in parallel growth forming a semi - "crown"-shaped group or possibly similar to a castle turret in form. The piece is nearly a "floater" as the underside shows that a majority of the Amethyst crystals are not only doubly-terminated, but are actually a different color completely. They have more a smoky grey hue underneath. Even the Amethyst crystals aren't necessarily purple, as they have notable reddish iron oxide inclusions, so these could possibly be considered "Onegite", but not quite. Minor Feldspar and Mica on the underside of the specimen makes for an interesting key into how this piece formed, as there was obviously a bit of underlying matrix. Take my word for it, this one is different, plain and simple. And if you like strange Quartz specimens, you should get this piece, you'll like it. Ex Paolo Matioli Collection.
