Item Description

The famous Amethyst specimens from Veracruz are among the finest examples of crystallized Amethyst in the world. Often, you will see this material labeled as coming from "Las Vigas", but this is actually the name of a city called Las Vigas de Ramirez in the Mexican state of Veracruz, and it's actually the home of many of the miners who collect these specimens. To complicate things more, the city lies within a municipality called Las Vigas de Ramirez, so there have been all sorts of labeling issues over the years. It is confirmed though that these beautiful Amethyst are in fact from Piedra Parada, and have been coming out for the better part of the last 50+ years. This specimen is an elegant and eye-catching small cabinet featuring a pair of fine quality, very sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy, beautiful purple color hexagonal prisms of Amethyst with only a tiny bit of attached matrix at the base. The piece is complete all around with no major damage whatsoever, I could only see a few tiny "flea bites" on the terminations, but I needed a loupe to see them. The smaller of the two crystals is WATER CLEAR throughout the upper 75% of the prism. The larger crystal has a slight amount of skeletal "stepped" faces on the reverse side, for a nice touch. Great quality all around and a very aesthetic example of this classic material. Priced in the inventory at $1,000.
