Item Description

The Amethyst specimens from Due West, South Carolina are among the most classic examples from any locality in the United States. They are beloved and renowned for their superior quality, often found in large, well-formed crystal group. This piece features several superb quality, large, classic, sharp, lustrous, translucent, robust crystals measuring up to 9.7 cm long with a combination of purple, smoky and colorless / white hues when backlit. The largest Amethyst crystal on the left side of the piece is actually doubly-terminated! The front side of the piece features notably smooth and incredibly well-defined crystal faces, but the reverse side of the specimen tells a different story with stepped faces, and alternating "window" / "Fenster" Quartz features all over. The piece is actually crystallized on both sides with only a small amount of roughness where it was separated from other crystals in the pocket. It is not only large and incredibly showy, but it's fine quality beautifully well-crystallized. PLEASE NOTE: There is a small area on the termination of the largest crystal, which at first glance might appear to be broken, but it's completely crystallized, and is the result of a rapid secondary overgrowth. It is not damaged, and actually looks beautiful up close. A fantastic example of these famous and relatively hard to find specimens from South Carolina. Priced in the inventory at $3,200.
