Item Description

A classic and uncommon CABINET Maine doubly terminated amethyst crystal. This striking crystal has unusual gemminess, translucency and rich purple color for the size. Probably an older specimen, though I have no way to tell. All I can say is that this is MUCH more gemmy and translucent than anything I have seen from here in modern times and it is likely to have been mined prior to 1960, I am told. Very modest termination and edgewear is noted on the dramatic upper portion. The bottom is contacted and a bit of dinging is noted. This remains a very fine, large example from this noted locale. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. Valued at $500.
