Amethyst and Smoky Quartz ("floater" crystal)

There are thousands of localities in the world for Quartz, and in recent years some of the finest quality specimens have been found at the Goboboseb Mountain in Namibia. You will see these pieces labeled as coming from Brandberg, but they are found at the mountain which lies about 8 miles away from there. This specimen is a fine quality, very sharp, lustrous, notably gemmy Quartz crystal showing a mix of intense purple hues, rich smoky colors and colorless zones. The crystal is actually a "floater" as it was originally contacted on the base, but recrystallized with a secondary layer of drusy Quartz, so it's crystallized all the way around. I really love how strong the purple and smoky colors are in this piece, and they actually alternate in a "phantom" zoning pattern throughout the upper portion of the crystals. I can't find any damage with the naked eye, and the termination is pristine and gorgeous. The piece was originally priced at $1,500, and considering that very few of these pieces are coming out now, it's a great piece to add to any Quartz suite or a collection African minerals.
