Amethyst and Smoky Quartz and minor Hematite (ex Brian Kosnar Collection)

Some of the finest quality and diverse Quartz specimens in the world come from the Goboboseb Mountain in Namibia. Truly most of these specimens are labeled as Brandberg, but the actual pieces from from the mountain which is about 8 miles away from there. Here we have a classic combingation Amethyst/Smoky Quartz crystal group with colorless Quartz zones. Under high magnification, one can see some bright red Hematite (?) inclusions, which I photographed under the microscope to better illustrate their quality. The piece has great luster, with water clear transparency in areas, plus it is about as sharp as Quartz gets. I really like the fact that one crystal is truly Amethyst, which the other is almost pure Smoky Quartz. Great quality, and reallly cool, even for this locality.
