Item Description

Here we have a classic Brazilian Amethyst gem. For decades Brazil has produced arguably the largest amount of gem-grade Amethyst in the world. Amethyst gets its name from the Greek terms "a-methystos", which actually means "not drunken,". Historically, wine goblets were carved from Amethyst in the belief that it prevented people from becoming intoxicated. It remains as a symbol of sobriety to this day. Traditionally, the color purple has been a symbol for royalty and Amethyst was often used for monarchs and leaders throughout history. Amethyst would be very expensive, were not for its widespread availability, as it is one of the few purple gems out there. This stone has a lovely purple color with eye-clean clarity and an "Oval Brilliant" cut.
