Item Description
Here we have a beautiful richly colored Amethyst from Brazil. The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek "a-methystos" meaning "not drunken,". Wine goblets were often carved from it, in an effort to prevent inebriation. Amethyst still symbolizes sobriety to this day. Traditionally, the color purple has been associated with royalty and Amethyst was often used for monarchs and leaders throughout history. In Tibet, amethyst is considered to be sacred to Buddha and rosaries are often fashioned from it. Amethyst would be very expensive, were not for its widespread availability, as it is one of the few purple gems out there. Brazil has long been one of the main sources of gem quality Amethyst in the world. This "Oval Brilliant" cut stone is a good sized Brazilian Amethyst with rich purple color and is only very slightly included. For the $50 starting bid, this stone is priced at just over $12 per carat, which is certainly below wholesale for the material. A great opportunity for somebody to snag a good sized Amethyst gem for a good price to add to their collection.
