Item Description

Here we have a fantastic example of this wonderful and classic material. Specimens of Amber (especially those with insect inclusions) have been glorified and in the public consciousness for the better part of 30 years thanks to the Jurassic Park film franchise. This miniature sized specimen is labeled as coming from Rüdersdorf, near Berlin, Germany, and features a very well-preserved Collembola (Springtail) fossil completely frozen inside. It's important to note that Wikipedia states, "Springtails (Collembola) form the largest of the three lineages of modern hexapods that are no longer considered insects". This means that while they are arthropods, Collembola are not insect. A wonderful specimen of this well-known material, best viewed under the microscope, but we did photograph the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. These pieces are always popular on the market, and even though its more of a fossil than a mineral, it's still a cool display piece of this well known material.
