Item Description

This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that states the piece was acquired from the well-known field collector, George Fisher. This is a great old display piece of featuring good quality, sharp, well-formed, semi-lustrous, prismatic crystals of blue green Amazonite measuring up to 4.2 cm associated with richly colored crystals of Smoky Quartz sitting on a matrix of white "rosettes" of Albite (variety: "Cleavelandite"). This combination of all three minerals together is the IDEAL association for specimens from the Lake George area in Colorado. It's exceedingly difficult to find the blue-green, black and white combo as you can see based upon the number of the specimens available on the market. The front of the piece is in very good condition, only a few minor nicks, and NO REPAIRS! It's a wonderful old time specimen dating back probably around 50 years. An attractive specimen from this noteworthy collection. Valued at $1400.
