Item Description

This is a great association specimen from one of the most storied and well known districts in Colorado. The pegmatites near the Lake George area of Colorado have produced what most collectors and dealers consider to be the finest Amazonite specimens from the standpoint of superb color, top quality, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations. This particular specimen features a few sharp, blue-green, blocky crystals of Amazonite which are associated with a predominant, sharp, translucent, well-formed crystal of Smoky Quartz sitting on contrasting white Albite (variety: "Cleavelandite") matrix. Perhaps the most notable aspect of the piece is that near the base of the Smoky Quartz crystal, there are several rich bronze-purple color crystals of Amethyst which are included with Goethite, commonly known as "Onegite". One of the few Amazonite specimens I have seen with both Smoky Quartz and "Onegite" on the same piece! For collectors, the ultimate combination of species from this area is to have Amazonite with Smoky Quartz on Albite, and this piece has all that and more! This specimen was collected nearly 35 years ago (August of 1976) when Richard Kosnar found some of the finest color Amazonite from Colorado extant. Don't miss out on this great Colorado "classic". It is not common to see a matrix specimen of this material, let alone with great associations.
