Item Description
This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that states the piece was personally collected by Wulff. This is a great old display piece of featuring a good quality, sharp, well-formed, lustrous, prismatic crystal of soft-blue green Amazonite. The main crystal is nearly 100% complete, with only a slight contact on the side, but the most important aspect of the specimen is the fact that it shows the rarely seen and highly desirable "striped" effect which is caused by a secondary feldspar deposition (often Anorthite). It's a wonderful old time specimen dating back probably around 50-60 years. An attractive specimen from this noteworthy collection.
