Item Description

While Colorado is the best known state in the US for Amazonite, there are several localities back east that produce good quality Amazonite specimens. This particular stone is from the Mineral Hill locality near Middletown Township in Eastern Pennsylvania. Very little is ever available of this material, and its distinctive in its appearance from other East Coast Amazonites like those from the Morefield Mine in Virginia or
Valhalla, New York. The Mineral Hill Amazonite has a distinctive "banding" with white streaks running through the rich blue-green Amazonite, almost like the marbling in a fine piece of steak. It reminds me of similar material I've seen from Russia in terms of appearance. This faceted "Oval" cut gem is a really attractive example with beautiful alternation blue-green and white color bands and wonderful internal translucency when backlit. From the collection of Dr. James "Jim" Houran, noted thumbnail mineral collector, gemstone collector and a speaker at our annual Dallas Mineral Symposium. Jim is the Managing Director of AETHOS Consulting Group.
