Item Description

Some of the finest examples of the blue-green variety of Microcline (Amazonite) in the world are those from central Colorado. The various pegmatites north of Lake George have produced crystals that are regarded as some of the best examples of Amazonite from the standpoint of color and quality with wonderful display specimens and excellent associations. This particular specimen is a sharp, well-formed, bright greenish-blue color Amazonite crystal free of matrix. The piece is complete all around, but it is repaired, which is not uncommon for this material. It's still a lovely representation of this classic material from Colorado with excellent color and form. This piece is from the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman, Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
