The area around Lake George, Colorado is famous for producing some of the finest crystallized examples of Amazonite (the blue-green variety of Microcline) in the world. Sometimes the color and quality of this material is fine enough that it can produce some impressive faceted stones. This particular gem was cut from a piece of rough found by noted field collector Adam Sotomayor on his 5th Regiment claim in Teller County. This "Shield" cut gem has a vibrant blue-green hue with excellent consistency of color, and even a bit of translucency around the edges when backlit! One rarely sees Amazonite from Colorado that will pass light, so this is superior quality compared to most. If you collect faceted / gem quality Feldspars or if you're a fan of Colorado gems, do not pass up this beautiful and unique stone.
