Item Description

A dense forest of lustrous snow-white pseudohexagonal alstonite spikes with well-striated satin luster faces covers the undulating barite matrix on this rich and showy small cabinet combination from the famous Co-Type Locality - the Brownley Hill Mine in Alston Moor. The impressive doubly terminated crystal on the lower left side is 1.2 cm. These are good sized crystals for the species and locale. Alstonite is a rare Ba-carbonate. This historic old lead, then zinc mine operated until 1936. Choice and excellent material from the Dr. Stephen Moreton Collection and collected in 1992-94.
