Item Description
A rich and showy Alstonite small cabinet combination from the famous Co-Type Locality - the Brownley Hill Mine in Alston Moor. Alstonite is a rare Ba-carbonate. The mounded matrix is richly and aesthetically sprinkled with glassy, lustrous near colorless pseudohexagonal alstonite spikes with well-striated satin luster faces. The crystals reach about 1.0 cm and are good sized crystals for the rare species and locale. The spikes rest among a dense coverage of white to salmon-pink barite blades. This historic old lead, then zinc mine operated until 1936. Choice and excellent combination material from the Dr. Stephen Moreton Collection and collected between 1992-1994.
