Item Description
Almedaite is an extremely rare lead zinch manganese yttrium titanium iron oxide / hydroxide that is only found in four places in the world. The finest crystals are those found at the type locality, which is an unnamed prospect in Novo Horizonte, Bahia Brazil. It's also the lead analogue of Se This particular crystal is a super example of this exceptionally rare species featuring a single, sharp, lustrous, tabular, silvery black colored trigonal / hexagonal crystal with great form. Yes, the side of the crystal has a contact, but the rest is in amazingly good condition, and the "c" face is not severely crazed or cracked like so many others I've seen of this material. The species was named after an important figure in Brazilian geology, a man named Fernando Flavio Marques de Almeida, who taught at the Institute for Technological Research, in Sao Paulo from about 1938-1939 until 1974.
